Villa Nina Island Inn
North Hutchinson Island, Florida

Everywhere you looked it was spotless, bright and cheery. This was not your usual B&B. The rooms, each with a private entrance, surrounded the owners living quarters but were separate. Privacy is key at this Inn. It was romantic and personable. Villa Nina Island Inn is tucked away right in the middle of high rise condominiums, but surrounded by the lush tropical vegetation of Florida. Located on 12 acres of the island and facing the cove of the Intracoastal waterway, it was beautiful walking the grounds and watching the wildlife enter the property.

Nina greeted us, took us on a tour of the rooms and each had its own distinct look. We stayed in the River Room, which was facing a beautiful inground pool for our use. There was tons of information in our room about the local restaurants and activities. It also had some photos of otters, bobcats and other animals that visit. Our room was very large, decorated in shades of blue with white wicker furniture. There was a TV/VCR, telephone with answering machine and data port connection and a wonderful king size bed! The all marble bath was to die for! With a huge tub and separate shower, the bathroom was nearly as big as the Eagle! A large walk-in closet also featured a refrigerator, coffee pot and snacks.

After the Inn tour, Nina took us for a golf cart tour of the property and the private beach just a short walk from the inn. She explained that this was the beach where the original Navy Seals had done their training and that we had just missed the re-enactment of the landing at Normandy.

Later that evening, as we were in the room working, we received a phone call letting us know a couple of glasses of beverage were waiting just outside our door on the patio. Along with the drinks was a small bucket of peanuts and a note that explained if we would leave the peanuts on the fence in the morning, blue jays, woodpeckers, squirrels and such would visit for pictures. Cindy stayed to photograph the birds, while I slipped out very early to catch the sunrise from the beach (didn't think I could get up that early, did you???)

Too soon it was time to go, but if you find yourself planning a trip to Hutchinson Island, stop by their Website and when you make YOUR reservations, be sure to tell them Cruising America said Hi!
