Villa San Pietro
Montichiari, Italy

Cruising America's Note: Thanks to Patty & Ron Gironda of All About The South for visiting with Anna & Jacques and providing us with this great review!

In June of 1999, my husband and I braved the Swiss Alps in order to enjoy a much needed rest at the Villa San Pietro in Montichiari, Italy.

Intriqued with the idea of a 400 year-old villa and its charming occupants our visit proved to be a highlight of our European vacation.

Anna Ducroz immediately drew us in to life at the Villa San Pietro. Stories of her family's history in the small town of Montichiari were shared while enjoying a wonderful tour of this intriquing compound.

Jacques Ducroz, a former captain in the French Foreign Legion was a charming and attentive host and eagerly shared stories of his travels.

After an exciting evening of dinner and stories we retired to comfortable and private accomodations with our own entry, a living area with a beautiful "frescoed" ceiling and a wonderful collection of antique furnishings lovingly gathered by her mother. An impressive collection of art; many pieces painted by her grandmother, adorn the walls of the villa.

Our guestroom was large, recently renovated and afforded us every convenience. A private bath with walk-in shower was roomy and modern. Anna's attention to her guests comfort is apparent with many details cared for!

Breakfast was served in the courtyard garden and was a pleasant experience with family life continuing all around us! A continental-style breakfast with fresh fruit, juice, plenty of coffee, pastry and cereal was offered.

A beautiful marble-columned loggia graces the courtyard gardens and is framed by fragrant roses, weathered brick and terra cotta walls. Anna's father carefully tends these pleasant gardens and like his wife, has a great eye for detail and texture. Breakfast was most enjoyable in this romantic setting!

Our visit to this comfortable and friendly Bed and Breakfast came to an end with a tour of the apartments of the villa. An incredible lifetime of gathering was artfully displayed by Anna's mother. A 400 year-old family history unfolded before our eyes and we left with a deep appreciation of this family's fascinating story! Thank-you Anna and Jacques!
