Paul's RV Park & Rio RV Park
Brownsville, Texas

We had initially planned to spend the summer around the Great Lakes, doing campground reviews. But after completing our STAY CONNECTED - A Guide to Modem Friendly Campgrounds book and CD, we got an "offer too good to refuse".....a month's stay free in southern Texas. Lee & Alma Zieger own Rio RV Park and Paul's RV Park in Brownsville, Texas. Three miles and one road separate the two.

The people are fantastic. We hooked up with a group of folks that take us places and visit with us nightly. They have taken us to dinner on South Padre Island and introduced us to Mexico many times. We have joined them for wings at a local hangout that also offers karaoke music and dancing. We love to watch the dancing and join in once and a while!

The winter activities list at both parks is overwhelming. There is something for everyone and so many events and with hundreds of sites between the two parks, it's like being in a big city, yet they are great RV Parks.

There is swimming at Rio's (Paul's pool is under construction right now), hot tubs, recreation halls, barbecues and so much more. All the sites at both parks are level and boast patios, cable TV and many also offer instant phone hookups!

The grass and grounds are kept beautifully. Alma spends more time grooming around the park than any manager/owner of a park we have seen so far. She rides around in her golf cart and works all the time. Her staff are fantastic, they are always there for us.

This area is a birder's paradise, a fisherman's dream and RV heaven. The weather has been gorgeous. There are flowers everywhere and with so many attractions nearby, we can only hope to get to them all. As the birds migrate here for the winter, there will be over 370 species in the area. We have hummingbirds just outside the motorhome and nightly visits from the wild green parrots.

To just describe these parks would not do them justice. How can you describe a feeling of home better than to say, this visit has "changed our lives".....? We love these parks and the area so much, we have decided to stay for at least a year. Mike will continue to do reviews around Texas, but the Eagle will be right here in Brownsville!

To really get a feel for the parks, check back with our Landings where we have Brownsville listed over the course of the next year. We will be posting tons of photos and reports on the ongoing activities. Each park has their own schedule of activities, but many times folks from both get together for events.

So be sure to keep an eye on our landings.....check out the Websites for both parks and when you make your reservations, be sure to let them know that Cruising America made the recommendation!
