The Jackson House Inn & Restaurant
Woodstock, Vermont

We really didn't expect the elegance that greeted us upon our arrival at the Jackson House Inn. Gardners were working and the extra effort showed everywhere. I saw pictures to be taken and Cindy was in extra great spirits as she loves to be pampered (and I should know!) We were in for a treat.

Owner Juan Florin met us at the door and ushered us into the registration office, just down the hallway from the largest dining area we've seen on this trip. It overlooks the grounds and gardens, where the head pastry chef, Crissa, handpicks her floral decorative garnishments.

He took us on a tour of the 15-room inn and told us that if he could be of any assistance to let him or his staff know. That offer was made again and again by the staff. The courtesy and professionalism of this Inn stands out in everything they do from start to finish. It is the perfect romantic getaway!

Twice a day the room was refreshed and fruit was available throughout the Inn. The front porches or the backyard with a hammock and lounge chairs are the perfect resting places after a stroll through the gardens and grounds. But you may choose to return and enjoy the evaporative coolers that are available in all the rooms. Each room is decorated in period antiques and all have private baths.

Our room had a full size brass bed, hairdryer in the bathroom, terry bathrobes and soft lighting. Again there was fresh fruit in the room. No TV though, and as I walked around I could see why. Everyone was busy, talking and enjoying each other's company and this is what this Inn is all about, spending time with each other, not the TV.

Breakfast the next morning was another treat! The first course was Bananas Beignet with Strawberry Sauce. The main course was Poached eggs with veal bacon, buttermilk chive biscuits and hollandaise. Added to all this were banana mufins, macadamia scones and raspberry danish, along with coffee, tea and orange juice.

I took a lot of pictures as I talked to the staff and realized they all spoke softly and wanted to make me feel at home. The service, the meals and the ambience all are there for a perfect romantic getaway. When planning your stay, be sure to make reservations for Dinner as well!
