Marvin and Bobbie Hernden were just re-checking our "housekeeping cabin" (clean as you go) as we arrived. We had never stayed in this type of cabin and it proved to be an interesting experience.
It was kind of a mini vacation, as you are left alone. You get the basic necessities; dishes, silverware, linens (optional at a small additional charge), toaster oven, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster, refrigerator, stove top, phone and fans. Each cabin has a washer & dryer available for guest use as well. Rules are posted in the kitchen area, brochures for local attractions are available as well as TV and VCR in the living room area. We were permitted to have Lexxus (our cocker spaniel) join us in the cabin, a great change of pace for her! The Herndens only have one cabin in which pets are not permitted.
There is no breakfast provided, you are on your own. Also, your sheets and pillowcases are stacked neatly on your bed. You make it up and take it down in the morning. The cabin is clean when it is given to you and expected to be clean when you leave it. For the trade-off of solitude and privacy, it was well worth it.
When the thunder and rain finally rolled in about 6:00 p.m., it was the perfect opportunity to turn off the computer and go onto the balcony to enjoy the cool rain and barbecue steaks.
The next morning, we woke to birds singing in the trees and a peaceful feeling of a place we are sure to return to!
