Glenna's Gutherie Cottage B&B
Sequim, Washington
As I stepped down from the motorhome, Glenna was right there to greet me. She had been painting a floral design on an out building. Cindy joined us and Glenna took us to the on site gift shop. Her husband, Jack was weeding a flower bed just outside the shop. His smile was so warm and friendly that I knew we were in for a great time.
Glenna took us on a tour of the gift shop and then the B&B. After this, she showed us to our room. It had everything we would need. There was a four poster queen size bed, couch and there was a tea and coffee setup on the tray on the bed. It had a TV/VCR, desk, fan, table and chairs and refrigerator The bathroom boasted a soaking tub and separate shower, robes, slippers and any amenities that we may have forgotten
Glenna had arranged for passes for us to The Olympic Game Farm and had organized for us to visit the Cedarbrook Herb Farm during our stay. She also had dinner that evening set up at the Dungeness Golf & Country Club's restaurant, The Greenside Grill and told us there would be another "surprise" in the morning.
We enjoyed the soaking tub and prepared for dinner. It was a short drive to the restaurant. Dinner and the ambience was great. We returned home for a perfect night's rest. We watched videos (Two of a choice of over 100 available) and Cindy was out before the second had finished.
The next morning, we got our "surprise". As we entered the kitchen, we were introduced to the Mayor of Sequim and his wife. Bill & Carol Thomas had been asked by Glenna to educate us about the area while she prepared breakfast for all of us. It was a great surprise. Bill told us that Sequim had been basically discovered by pilots. When they would fly over this particular area, there was always a hole in the rain clouds and it was clear there. Some settled in the area and the population grew. Now it is becoming more and more a retirement area. He was quick to note that the town only gets 16-17 inches of rain a year and that the Olympic Mountains protect it from the rain that seems to be everywhere else in the area. The city has grown from 5,000 when he arrived to around 20,000 now. There are many plans for improvements and we think the town is in great hands.
For breakfast, we started with an "osmosis" slush. We had cantaloupe, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. Then Jack brought in eggs benedict with crab meat, pineapple wedges, watermelon wedge and orange slices. Next came breakfast dessert of apple dumplings with butterscotch sauce and whipped cream, garnished with a chocolate dipped strawberry. Boy, what a meal!!! Jack runs marathons for fun and he must stay in shape for them by running all this food to the folks that stay at the B&B. (GO JACK GO!!!)
After visiting for a while longer, Bill and Carol had to get back to work and we needed to visit the Game Farm. Glenna & Jack let us use their van, so nothing would happen to the Eagle. She was a little concerned that the buffalo and other animals might scratch the motorhome with their horns. It was a great show. We returned, dropped off the van and unfortunately had to say goodbye to the O'Neils. We then headed off to the herb farm.
What a review!!! We met some of the nicest people and enjoyed every moment. We wholeheartedly recommend this B&B, so check out their Website, make your reservation and be sure to tell them Cruising America sent you their way!
