Florida House Inn
Amelia Island, Florida

Bob and Karen Warner had informed us they would be gone for the day to Miami to attend a wedding, but encouraged us to come for a review anyway. I thought we wouldn't get the chance to meet the innkeepers that had accomplished what we found in the inn scrapbook. Happily, I was mistaken. In the next days, we would get to meet both the Warners and learn how they made their dream a reality.

The drive onto Amelia Island over the bridge had a tranquil feeling as Third Steet and the Flags of The Florida House Inn appeared before us. Cindy noticed a large tree in the backyard and I knew it would have a story. It was midday and a rain shower had leveled off the humidity, somewhat.

After checking in we decided to take a tour. There are 14 guest rooms and all of them have private baths. I went down to the pub at the foot of the stairs. It had a fireplace and many tables to relax and unwind. But most of all it had Jim. Jim's the bartendar everyone likes. Always agrees, has a smile and can't do enough to make you at home.

Cindy chose a book, some coffee and the courtyard. She commented on how attentive the staff was and I told her I was asked if I needed anything a couple of times. The staff of 21 made sure our every need was taken care of.

Construction was going on with four new rooms. And thought had been given to the wonderful old tree which, as it turned out, was one of the drawing cards that made Bob choose the property to start with. It is over 200 years old.

Our room was very comfortable, with a queen size bed, private bath with shower, phone and a TV. Traveling as much as we do, we always appreciate the TV and phone!

Breakfast was served in the private dining room and consisted of canteloupe, honey dew melon, grits, sausage patties, scrambled eggs, choice of teas, coffee and orange juice.

It was a real treat at The Florida House and we returned for lunch on our way back to the office after the innkeepers conference..

Be sure and check out our review of the restaurant.
