In 1829, Captain Ezra Nye considered his present home too confining and built a larger one across the street. It is now owned by Elaine and Harry Dickson and they have appropriately named it the Captain Ezra Nye House Historic Bed & Breakfast Inn. It is called an inn for all seasons.
Harry greeted us at the door. As part of our tour, we were shown the collector's china in the dining area and even the kitchen (which few innkeepers do) and his private quarters. He then showed us to our room. With a small sitting area, double bed and private bath, we were all set. There was no air conditioning, but since the heat wave had finally broken, the window fan did a great job!
After checking in, we were asked by Harry to take some photos of the town. It is a quaint little village and we needed little persuasion to do this! During our walk around town, we passed The Belfry Inn & Bistro, where Harry had arranged for us to have dinner that night.
The Captain Ezra Nye House is within walking distance of the Thomton Burgess Doll and Glass Museums, Hoxie House, Heritage Plantation, Cape Cod Scenic Railroad, Dexter Grist Mill on Shawme Pond, public tennis courts, beaches, fine restaurants, churches, antique and artisan shops. Neargy is the Sandwich Auction House, famous Sandy Neck Beach, the Wing and Nye homesteads and the Cape Cod Canal bike path.
Too soon, it was time for us to move on to our next destination. As you plan your trip to Sandwich, check out their Website and tell them Cruising America says "Hi!"

After a peaceful, comfortable night, we rose early the next morning to the smell of the coffee brewing downstairs. Along with the coffee, we were offered tea and orange juice. Watermelon slices came next, followed by a cheese souffle, lemon muffins and banana bread. As we enjoyed our breakfast, we talked with some other guests from Mississippi who were on their way to spend the day in Boston.
