Elk Cove Inn
Elk, California
 |
Boy, talk about finding the "mother lode"! We did at the Elk Cove Inn. One night wasn't enough to begin enjoying all this inn has to offer. It was originally built by another lumber mogul. But in 1968, it became the first B&B on the northern California coast and is now run by David Lieberman.
This 15-room oceanfront estate sits secluded upon a bluff overlooking one of the best views along the coastline. Awaiting you are oceanfront cottages, antique filled rooms, fresh flowers throughout the Inn, a private stairway to the beach, an outdoor hottub, oceanfront gazebo and special amenities, such as in room massages and facials can be arranged. |
The grounds are as spectacular as the rooms. Our room was "Seascape" and overlooked the gazebo perched on the bluff. It had a king size bed with down comforter, window seat, table & chairs, sofa and chair facing the large windows, gas fireplace with remote control and a private bath with walk in shower. Fresh flowers, cookies, grapes and wine awaited our arrival. There was a coffee pot and wide selection of teas available in our room as well.

Cindy read a book this afternoon on the rooftop balcony, while I watched 3 videos in the large common area on the second floor of the main house. Available for guest use is a refrigerator, microwave, desk with guest phone and tons of books, magazines, videos and games. After walking into town for dinner, we returned to a great night's sleep listening to the surf and snuggling under the down comforter.

Breakfast was another treat! A buffet is served from 8:30-10:30 each morning, allowing for sleeping in late if you like! There was coffee, teas, cranberry, apple, orange and grapefruit juices available. Our selections for breakfast included Morning Pie (light cottage cheese and orange pie), vanilla yogurt, strawberries, citrus marinated in almond syrup, mixed fruit of honeydew melon, cantaloupe, watermelon, kiwi and strawberries, deviled eggs, cheeses, cottage cheese, cinnamon rolls, peach cobbler, ham, link sausages, cold cereals, hot oatmeal and all the fixings, the bread du jour - today it was a cinnamon bread, scrambled eggs with veggies, roasted garlic potato patties, bread pudding with bourbon praline sauce, croissants, and biscuits with southern-style sausage gravy. Quite a feast to choose from! This inn will also share their recipes with you if you ask, so don't miss this chance.

This is another one of those spots that we could have spent a month at! So, be sure to stop by the website for Elk Cove Inn and make your plans to stop........and tell them Cruising America sends our best!
