Destination South Padre Island
South Padre Island, Texas

DESTINATION: It's all in the name and it's exactly that! You don't really come here to go somewhere else. It's where you to for vacation. We had met a couple in Georgia who had gone on and on about how nice it was. But seeing is believing and here it is!

Coming over the bridge, the Island looked like a postcard. I wanted to start taking pictures, but first I had to park the Eagle.

As we entered the park, workers smiled and waved us on in. Before even talking about the park, I want to mention how the employees never stopped working on something. They were great and the condition of the park is a tribute to their efforts.

The park is paved and has rock pads. Each site had a picnic table...and Cindy has her instant access phone, which always makes her happy!

We registered in what used to be the town's water tanks. The entire park used to be the location for the town's water company. It is fantastic how these tanks have been renovated to house three apartments, the offices, common areas and a workout room complete with exercise equipment.

Destination offers 3 apartments at the tops of the water tanks, overlooking the water. They have everything imaginable in them and are the perfect spot for the kids & grandkids to stop by for a week's time spent with grandparents who may be wintering on the Island. With full kitchens, (even including dishwashers!), appliances, living room/dining area, bedroom and 2 baths!

I took pictures and toured the island while Cindy caught up on her email. Later, we enjoyed the pool. This pool was unique to our experience. It's chemicals, flow, temperature and all aspects are controlled from computers out of Houston, Texas. The water was crystal clear and the piped in Hawaiian music was the perfect setting. The hot tub was just right and while Cindy swam a few laps, I laid back and counted my blessings.

This park is geared toward families and they were out early the next morning, enjoying the video games and TV areas in one of the tanks (buildings). I went and lifted weights and rode the exercise bike for a while as Cindy checked the email again this morning.

Too soon, it was time to head off toward our next review. Cindy went to do a review of a dolphin watch boat tour and I headed about 20 miles inland to to our next stop.
