The Colby House
Asheville, North Carolina
I thought long and hard about how to describe this property. Each room is different, as are most inns. It all came down to "class"!

 | Bonnie Marsh smiled warmly as she asked me in. I knew I would taking a lot of pictures as her husband Peter joined us. The tour through the home was a treat in itself. There is something for everyone, even a cottage that sleeps four, with a full kitchen.
I took a few disks of photos and took off to get the outside before dark. I download the shots to the laptop, and then headed off for dinner and a movie (I probably should review movies, too?) I ended up just driving around. I did find a place to get a massage and planned for a visit next week. Then, I returned to the inn. |
Bonnie, Peter and I talked for a while about how the Internet was affecting the B&B industry. It proved very informative. We concluded that bookings were up in Asheville, so we're happy. It was nice to sit around a fire and talk for a change. Peter outlined the Association's five-point plan for growth and it sounded great. This is certainly a diversified group and everything is looking up for Asheville.
I took a few more photos and noticed an autographed, Walter Payton football that one of Peter's sons had given him for Christmas. "We used to watch him in Chicago," said Peter with a smile. "He was genuinely nice." I went up to bed remembering "Sweetness". He was truly one of the greatest.

My room was huge. It had a queen four poster bed. Beautiful wall to wall carpet was deep hunter green, perfect for a room entitled "Foxfire". Fox hunting portraits adorned the walls and a stuffed toy fox in hunting togs sat beside a fireplace with a quick light log inside. On the mantle were books. There was a desk with writing materials and two chairs next to the fireplace.
There was a personal greeting card with my name and fresh flowers on the desk. I had an 11-drawer dresser with mirrors and an alarm clock. A nice radiator kept the room toasty. My private bath had a shower/tub combination and a pedestal sink. There was also a rug on the tile to keep my bare feet from the "shock awake syndrome" first thing in the morning. An extra long mirror inside the door was a nice touch. I drifted off moments after hitting the pillow.

Tea was being served outside my door as I awoke. There was a fire in the library when I got downstairs. I looked outside....the snow was gone and it was going to be another great day in Asheville. I ambled into the breakfast room.
| Bonnie and Peter agreed to join me for breakfast. We started with bananas, kiwi and lime, garnished with a pansy. The main course was lemon-ricotta pancakes with raspberry sauce and dill-Cheddar scones. We finished with Colby House Apple Kringle. Boy, was I ready to face the day! Make sure to visit the Website, make your reservations and enjoy your stay in Asheville! | |
