Cedar Crest, A Victorian Bed & Breakfast
Asheville, North Carolina

Probably the closest (3 blocks) B&B, in the world, to the Biltmore Estate is Cedar Crest. It sits upon a hill overlooking the entry way to Biltmore. With it's detailed woodwork throughout the inn, we were home for the evening and well rested for our trip to Biltmore the next day.

Rita Wightman jumped into the Eagle's passenger seat and after we maneuvered a few turns, showed me to the parking area near the cottage. We had a nice, level spot for the Eagle and Lexxus for tonight. We joined Bruce, Rita's husband, and Cindy at the 10-room main house. Upon entering, the first thing that grabs you is the beautiful, detailed woodwork. This home was built using a lot of materials left over from the Biltmore Estate construction. I spent a lot of time wondering where they would have placed these works. It is worth a trip to the Inn, just to see them.

Our room, East Lake, had a queen bed with 2 lamps, a fainting couch, 27-inch TV with remote and a gas fireplace. There were two 3-drawer dressers and one had a mirror. We had an alarm clock, armoire with 4 shelves and 1 drawer, a radiator, huge rug, phone, and an ice bucket with glasses next to a quilt rack finished out the room. In the closet were hangers, an ironing board and iron. The private bathroom had a claw foot tub with shower on a tile floor. There was also a hairdryer provided.

Rita offered to make us reservations at several local restaurants, but we chose to dine in the motorhome tonight. We then headed back to our room to enjoy a little TV, check the email and download pictures. We spent a very comfortable night and awoke refreshed and ready for breakfast.

Breakfast was served in the formal breakfast room. Coffee, tea, grapefruit juice and V-8 juice were served up. We started with minted melon balls. Next came eggs ramekin with cheese and ham. There were also Cindy's favorites, too, BREADS!!!!!......chocolate capuccino muffins, raisin bran muffins, lemon poppyseed bread, raspberry danish and croissants.

We were more than ready for our day at Biltmore.......Cindy's first visit. Check out this great Inn, and plan your visit to Biltmore around a wonderful old home designed by one of the Estate's architects.........this home is a passage to 1890!
