Adventure Rents
Gualala, California
|
Premier Canoe and Kayak rentals are available on the west coast in the tiny little town of Gualala. We journeyed down Hwy 1 to meet Jan Harris of Adventure Rents and check out this adventure!
Jan is a long-time Cruising America client and we have "talked" so often with her that we felt we already knew her. When she asked for a review......well, you all know how much we like the water.....so we declined to actually experience it, but did want to stop and see her part of the world.

 | Jan met us at the Post Office and climbed aboard The Eagle as we took the ride into Sonoma County to get a better view of the layout of the Gualala River which forms the border between Sonoma and Mendocino counties, and is backed by 29,000 acres of private forest. The view is spectacular! The canoes hold 2-5 persons and all safety gear is provided. Instructions are free also! Special packages are available and special events like Riverfest or the Moonlight trips make the adventures even more special. | |
In addition to the river trips, Jan, as a non-denominational minister, also performs many weddings each year on the bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. This is in conjunction with Celebration Connection.
| | We left the headquarters of Adventure Rents and went next door to meet one of the newest local businesses, Green World. Owned by Bob Griffanti and Clay Birder, this great little nursery was hopping with spring business. Look for their website to be online soon! | |
Jan then took us to where the landings take place for the canoe trips, through the redwoods, past beautiful Gualala River Redwood Park. This is really a special place. We spied several fishermen along the way.....the steelheads are running now.
 | But remember, this is catch & release fishing....no barbs allowed! |
Jan explained to us that in the summer, the end of the river closes and it becomes some of the calmest waters around for canoeing. Just floating along viewing the birds and other wildlife. Then, around Thanksgiving, the water will break through at the ocean and once more flow into the sea.
As a surprise for us, Jan had arranged for a review at Oceansong Pacific Grill, so we soon left the peaceful river to enjoy a fabulous lunch.
Soon, it was time to head out for our next stop. But, someday......when the river is very calm!......we may just return and Cindy may give it a try anyway! When making your plans for outdoor recreation on the California coast, be sure to stop by Adventure Rents.....and tell Jan that we sent you her way!
